“LUST FOR LIFE, OR WAVE OF DEATH”

The floods phenomena in Indonesia is a big problem, that until today, the solution is has not found yet. the floods is still extending in Indonesia in area that has a little water diffusion, like in Jakarta. It almost every year the floods knock over this city. This is because there is only a little water diffusion in that metropolitan city. This problem is because the lust for life a lot people that not thinking about the effect of their lust, that brings them to the wave of death.

            The floods is the one of the natural disaster that caused by natural, and even human being. This essay will discuss about :

1.                  The causes of floods

2.                  The effect of flood

3.                  How to prevent the flood?

What is the meaning of floods? Floods is like a wave of death, where it can give so many loss for society life.  From the fact that had been happened in our country, especially in Jakarta floods is able to make loss in everything. Not only for their assets, but also their life. So no wonder, if we called it the wave of death. Sometimes, the lust for life of people make them forget about the obligation to keep their environment to stay alive and fine too. This is why we give this essay a tittle “Lust for Life or Wave of Death”

1.                  What is the causes of floods?

The reason why the flood is always knock over our country is because the less care of the society  about the environment. Like the fact that we often see, that the green forest turned into a sky scrapper buildings. and not be balanced by an action of reforestation. Those buildings are built without thinking about the water diffusion that closed and make the water is cannot be absorbed by the soil. And this is the one of thing that caused the floods.

Indonesia is a country with a lot of rivers inside it. The rivers that should be used to be the source of life, it changed into a wave of death. Why? It is because people do not take care about the river, and they often forget about the fact that river is able to be the main source of their life. They innocently throw their garbage and rubbish in to the river. And the water is constrained. This is a very sad view, if we look at the Ciliwung rivers, for example, the river is full of rubbish and it is more dirty than the rubbish bin.

Another causes of flood is the illegal logging, where the illegal logger is cutting down the tree in a forest comprehensively. Without choosing the trees selectively. If we look at the one of our forest, the bald forest is able to make the floods. Because there is no enough root to absorb the water. In fact, forest is very important to save the water in the root and make our environment fresh, but because of the human being done, forest can caused a wave of death for them.

2.                  The flood that knock over Indonesia almost every year is giving a very big loss for society. The great big of floods that knock over Indonesia made an economic problem, social problem, and another problem. The expensive house that have been built, it destroyed by the flood, the money that have been collected  time by time, it is gone in an instance. Because of the flood the side that being loss is not only the individuals but also the country is the most side that gain loss. How does it not, the road that have been repaired it have to be broken again by the flood.  Not only about the materials, but also the soul of people has gone, brought by the wave of death or flood.  A happy family could be broken, separated by this wave of death. It’s also able to change our life at once. The rich one will be homeless, the poor lost everything.

There are so many cases in Indonesia about floods. Where the society have to sleep on the road and being homeless. They attacked by the disease because the flood bring a lot of sickness. Many complain we often heard from the victim about their feeling, heartbreaking crying sound of children, there is no many things to do if all of that is happened.

3.                  How to prevent the floods?

Human cannot stop the rains to fall. That’s why the flood is look like cannot be overcame. But actually, human have given a mind to think straight and positive, to solve their life problems, and it just about how they use their mind?. Human is the most perfect creatures and so they must have a thousand ways in solving their problem. No exception the flood. We can find the way to prevent the floods. We can stop it together. Hand in hand make our country a better to live and create a better generation. So this is the steps that can be done to prevent the flood. The first is don’t you ever throw your rubbish in the river. Remember that river is your life, and it is the one of the most important life source for you. If you have a desire to throw your rubbish in the river, imagine that your life will be end soon. And then, the government should give an assertive sanction for them who throw their rubbish in the river, and hold a cleaning river program. And if it needed, give the rule breaker a fine like in Singapore. And we should continue the thousand tree planting program. Because with this program our country will be more green and the water diffusion will be more. And we also need to do 3R, reduce, reuse, recycle to decrease the rubbish in our country especially for the an-organic rubbish. And by separating both of the rubbish we will be easier to keep our environment clean.

We can make the "biopori", so the water can be absorbed into the soil and there will be no flood, because the water that should be absorbed is absorbed, and the water that should be flowing in the river, it will flow well.

So, the floods that happened in Indonesia year by year is actually can be prevented, by plant a lot of trees, and stop  throwing the rubbish in the river and stop illegal logging. We have to realize that the impact that caused by the floods is really extreme. So we have to stop it and prevent it. Start from our self, and we can make a better world to live in.

"DEATH PENALTY FOR CORRUPTORS? IT’S NOT EFFECTIVE!"

Nowadays, we often found the corruption case in the news, internet, tv, and even around us. In Indonesia, the corruption is alike habit, so many people had been involved with this case, not exception state official.

Corruption is a high level crime in Indonesia because the corruptors steal the national money which in fact aims at developing our country. And, the corruption just gives benefit for individual or groups and it give loss to society. Mostly, the total amount of the money which is corrupted can be millions until billions, from which our government can build a better school, hospital, and the other public services. Many of corruptors are mostly come from the official and country institute.

Corruption in Indonesia is an influenza virus that spreading to all the body of our government since 1980 and the steps to eradicate it is still thwarted until nowadays. H. Muhammad Nurdin, S. Ag, M.Pd.I in his book entitled Pendidikan Anti Korupsi said : “In 2002, Transparency International (TI) put Indonesia as the most corrupt country number 4 in the world from 113 countries that observed, and in 2011, Indonesia still stand as the most corrupt country with the 3 score from 182 countries that observed.”  (Natalia Subagjo , 2011 : 1) It means that the corruption in Indonesia increases years by years. Many of efforts to eradicate the corruption problem has been done by the government, such as giving fine, prisoning the corruptors, until “giving death penalty for the corruptors”. But, the case of corruption still increases. So, giving death penalty for the corruptors is not an effective solution to eradicate the corruption. This essay will discuss about why death penalty is shouldn’t be applied to give the shock therapy for the corruptors in Indonesia? Our argument will give another penalty solution for the corruptors. The problems that will be discussed in this essay can be formulated as follow:

a.       What is the cause that can make people do the corruption?

b.      Why is giving the death penalty for the corruptors is not an effective solution?

c.       How to eradicate the corruptors?

d.      How to prevent the number of corruptors that do the corruption?

a.                   To know how to decrease the number of corruptors we need to know about what the causes that make the corruption is getting bigger in our country, it is explained in the book creation of H. Muhammad Nurdin, S. Ag, M.Pd.I in his book entitled Pendidikan Anti Korupsi, Karlina Helmanita (2011 : 66) explains that any causes which make the corruption happen in Indonesia, they are:

1.      The salary of state employees which less compared with their necessary which always increase. Why? Because the low salary that can’t fulfill their life’s need, it will persuade them to do everything to fulfill their life’s need, without thinking how about the other people’s life will be. In another side, corruption came from the thankless one. To face this kind of corruptor, we need to give them a deep teaching to create a thankful person. And to create a thankful person we need to use religion approach.

2.      The government’s management that is less good.

The government’s management that less good is the reason why is the corruption getting bigger and bigger year by year. The not good arranged management gives a loose chance for the official to do the corruption. In our country, it often found the state official, that clearly proved do the corruption is being protected instead. As the case of Gayus Tambunan, he’s clearly proved as corruptors, but he got a good facilitation in his prison. And his prison is more alike a hotel 5 stared. It shows that the government is not in a good condition, it can be guessed that the government got some kind of bribery. How the corruption will get lower, if the law can be finished by the money? Whereas, the corruptors are the one who have so much money, so they will easily pay the law upholder, and they will free. The solution is the law upholder should maximalize their job and do their job as well as possible. They have to build a good mission to eradicate the corruptors and make a clean country not to get big sum of money, because, by working maximally the country’s income will get higher each year, and they will get a high payment.

3.      The modernization caused the growing of corruption

The modernization means that most of the work done technologically and it is easy for the official to manipulate the data and the chance to do the corruption is wider. But, as we know that today we live in digital era. It can’t be imagined if we not use the technology. Where the technology is really help us and make our task lighter. So, the solution for this case is by tightening the supervision and creating a transparent government where the citizen can see or know the using of budget and fund of this country.  So, the citizen will know what happen to their country, and the government will be trusted more by the citizen.

So, from all of those causes it can be concluded that to stop the corruption problem is not by giving the corruptors death penalty. 

b.                  Why is giving the death penalty is not an effective for the corruptors? The death penalty that as long as now given to someone that done a crime is by cutting their head, giving them poisoned drinking, and put them into a crocodile stable. And this is the real violence that break the human right and not suit with our second principle about the fairness and courteous. So, what are the proper penalty that should be given to the corruptors? I am sure that the death penalty is not the proper penalty. Because the death penalty is against the Human Right, as the Fundamental Constitution article 28A 1945 explain that “Everyone have the right to live and maintain their life” in this article is used the word “everyone”, it means that the people who included in this article is everyone not except the corruptors. Beside of that, in Principle number two, it’s explained about the fairness and courteous humanity. So if the death penalty is applied for the corruptors, it means that we destroy their life and it is not courteous. The corruptors are not a killer, so the corruptors are not

As we know that the death penalty will not solve the corruption problem. Why does it happen? Because, by giving the death penalty the corruptors will die in vain and the money which has been corrupted will never come back. Do you think that with give the death penalty for the corruptors the corruption case will end? And it will decrease the corruption number in our country? The answer is NO! Why? We can see this effort has been applied in China, and you know what? The corruption is being increase instead. And compare it with Denmark or New Zealand, where the death penalty is not applied, but the countries become the most anti-corrupt countries in the world. We can learn from these countries.

Death penalty is a statement of arrogance that there’s no mistake that need to be revised in its decision. It is a form of violence that must be disappeared in the modern era. According to the International Law death penalty must be erased from this world. Commonly, a penalty is purposed to give a shock therapy, in order to make the subject will never act again in the next time. But if the death penalty is applied, there’s still a chance for another one to do the same thing, for example if the corruptors is given the death penalty, after the corruptors die, another people still can do the corruption and corruption will always be continued.

c.                   How to eradicate the corruptors? To be an anti-corrupt country it needed the exact solution, to eradicate the corruptors. This is the problem that must be faced by Indonesian people. If we applied the death penalty for the corruptors, I believe that it won’t decrease the corruption problem. It just caused another problem, because if the corruptors who done the greatly corruption is given the death penalty and the small corruptors treated same, so then will happen social jealous. They will feel that there is no fairness. In Indonesia the number of corruptors is very big, from 2004-2016 as amount 789 cases this amount is the only amount that can be found by The Corruption Eradication Commission, and we still don’t know about the illicit corruptors that haven’t been found. It’s better if the death penalty is not applied for the corruptors. We need to repair the government element and upright the laws. As the Corruption Constitution No. 31 of 1999 article 2 (1) which is then updated with the Act No. 20 of 2001. In the Act, set how many prison sentences and fines of minimum and maximum for those found guilty of corruption. The penalties range from 1 year up to a maximum of 20 years in prison, or fined at least Rp 50.000.000 until Rp 1.000.000.000 and rely on the parties to a criminal act of corruption (whether the person who bribed or bought off).

Beside of that, to eradicate the corruption we can increase the performance of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Supreme Audit Board (BPK), Supreme Court of Indonesia (MA), State Police and another Law Institution. We can cooperate with BPK to audit and observe the financial report, especially the state official, so the amount of their wealth before and after they served as a state official can be controlled by the country, and if there’s a sign of corruption it can be found soon. Then we also can cooperate with MA or State Police to give them the penalty according to the law that valid in Indonesia. We know that the maintenance of the law in Indonesia is still very low. Because of that, the law institute must clarify and strengthen the law in Indonesia by creating the real clean and responsible official and state institute. Also by giving them a really hard sanction such as fined them at least as much as the money that they have been corrupted or put them to the prison as long as possible, or giving them rehabilitation. As we know that these way is being applied in Indonesia since long time ago, but until now the corruption problem is still can’t be solved. This is not funny if the member of the state institute and the law upholder on the contrary break the law. Also the one who get penaltied is not only the corruptor but also people who involved with the corruptors. As people who receive the bribe from the corruptors to hide the corruptor’s action. So, people will not try to get involved and try to be clean.

Beside of that, the other solutions to eradicate the corruptors in order to make them really realize about their act and they feel the result of their act. As follow:

1.      Impoverishment, with this way the corruptors will able to feel as the poor people.

2.      Give them fine at least as much as the money that they have corrupted with this way the rate of the loss is possible to get decreased.

3.      Rehabilitation for the corruptors, by giving them religion knowledge in order to make them aware and won’t do the same thing.

We as the high level corruption country need to learn from the country that clean and anti-corrupt without applying the death penalty. We can learn from Denmark, Finland, New Zealand that recorded as the most anti-corrupt countries in the world, which mean the citizen of those country is rarely being corruptors. In Denmark, beside of the law enforcement, there is a broad consensus that fighting corruption involves public participation and transparency mechanism such as disclosure of information.

d.             How to prevent the number of corruptors in Indonesia.

To prevent the number of the corruptors in Indonesia can be done earlier especially for the young generation that will be the next golden generation to build our country and make it better. We can give them character building, started from the family, environment, and school. Family is very influencing for the growth of the children. Where the family is the most place to live with and get interaction. So, their attitude is mostly influenced by the family. So, from now the family should introduce the positive moral value, glorious ethic kindness, and religion knowledge. For example giving the good act model for the children, and teach them to be honest such as giving back the rest of the money to the parents if they are asked to buy something or teach them to be transparent. So they will be habitual to be honest and transparent with their family.

Beside of that, their environment is also influence the children’s attitude. Here the family is also needed to control their children. How their children interact with around. What does their environment give bad impact for their children for the next? It is very important and need to know by the parents.

School is the second home for children. Because, a part of their times, they spend at school. So school is also influence the children’s attitude. Because of that, teacher as the second parents at school, must give a good lesson, educate, give a good model for students, and also give religion education at school. And, school is also has to make student controlling program. It is such as controlling the bad behavior of student like cheating or taking the monthly money or building money. This matter be done in order to create the clean generation and have the honest attitude in society in the future.  Curriculum thirteen also can be the one way to prevent the corruption in Indonesia. Because in this curriculum, the students also often taught to be honest, independent, discipline and have a care attitude to another people. The students also always get the lesson and they always do analysis, when they face a new material in their lesson. So, the students are habitual to think about the effect from their action. According to the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud, 2012), there are values ​​that are internalized in the anti-corruption education at school, that are:

1.      Honesty

Honesty is a behavior that based on effort to make himself as a people who always can be trusted in his words, action, and job.

2.      Concern

Attitude and action that always want to give help for another people and society.

3.      Independence

Independence is an attitude and behavior that not easy depending on another people when they finishing tasks.

4.      Discipline

An action that showing regular and obey behavior with various rule and regulations.

5.      Responsibilities

Attitude and behavior of the people to do their duties and obligation, that must be done by themself, society, environment (natural, social, and cultural), country and God.

6.      Hard work

Behavior that shows serious attempt to handle some obstacle in study and duties, also finish the task as well as possible.

7.      Simplicity

Simplicity is an unpretentious, attitudes and behavior that not over, no many details, trinkets, simple, economical.

8.      Bravery

Having a steady heart and big confidence in face the danger, difficulty, etc. (not afraid, fear) and no retreat.

9.      Justice

Same weight, no partial, impartiality / no favoritism, siding / adhering to the truth, should not be arbitrary, balanced, neutral, objective and proportional. (Agus Wibowo, 2013).

These values must always be applied to all the students at schools start from Elementary School until University. If all of the young generation has been taught that values, I’m sure that the young generation will think previously before doing something that related with corruption action. With be done the anti-corruption education earlier for young generation, there’s a big possibility it will eradicate the candidate of corruptors for the future. So, Indonesia will be a country that free from the corruption case.

   If all side as family, society, and school has been supporting each other in preventing the corruption it will easy to prevent the young generation from corruption behavior. So, it can be created the golden generation, who will bring this country to be better than before and our country is clean from the corruption.

So, why does the death penalty not need to be applied for the corruptors, especially in Indonesia? Why? It is because the death penalty is an incompatible act with the law, as Human Right, Fundamental Constitution 28A and Principle. Where it is knew Indonesia is the law country. The matter need to be done to decrease or eradicate the number of corruptors in Indonesia is by applying the transparent politics and opened state official where the citizen can be participated in controlling the country’s financial. So here, the citizen also is participated to control the income and the expulsion of this country or the institute. So, if there is an inelegant can be known by the citizen.

The law in Indonesia is also needed to be upright again. As give a suit sanction with their done, for example the corruptors must give back the money as much as they have been corrupted and or give them according with constitution or the valid law, with not receive bribe from the cast to lighten the sanction. In order to make our country is clean from corruption without applying the death penalty for the corruptor as Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand.
